'The Trafficking Murders' by Brian O'Hare - Review
We live in the 21st century. During the past few decades, our world had undergone a huge development. It caused changes across the whole system. Nowadays, several countries are civilized and highly developed in many economic sectors. People are practised in a broad range of activities and rather well-educated. Our world has changed, although, not as much as one would certainly hope. Modern slavery and human trafficking are becoming rather popular nowadays. Youngsters from all over the world are being kidnapped and sold for hard labour in fairly poor conditions. It is a complex, almost transparent circle where a high number of people are included. Such an organization is hard to find - even harder to infiltrate. One of such secret trafficking circles gets discovered in Belfast, Northern Ireland. A dead body of a young Chinese girl is dumped in the garden of one fairly prominent gentleman. A cargo ship filled with young people of Romanian nationality is heading for one of Belfast’s seaports. Two different cases emerge within one timeline. At first, they seem to have no connection whatsoever. Although, as the investigation proceeds, both appear to be substantially related to one another - more than anyone would’ve guessed.
Another of Chief Inspector Sheehan’s detective mysteries means another success. Before The Trafficking Murders, I had the chance to read a different piece of O’Hare’s collection of crime stories, called The Dark Web Murders. The first book convinced me of the author’s remarkable qualities, which the second couldn’t but validate. Brian O’Hare is a richly experienced writer. He is perfectly oriented in the crime fiction genre and knows how to attract the reader’s attention. One of his unique characteristics is the number of storylines he employs, as there is always more than one. O’Hare makes the reader experience several moments of revelation throughout the book. As a result, reading itself becomes a lot more adventurous. It is an amazing thing to perform, of which O’Hare is a true master.
While reading through O’Hare’s crime piece, I didn’t find anything of dislike. The book’s storyline was attractive, characters elaborated and the atmosphere rather cliff-hanging. All was great from the beginning till the very ending. I very much enjoyed reading this detective mystery.
I cannot but give this book a full score. I can proudly admit that O’Hare’s crime stories are the best I have ever come across. Reading his books I find more than pleasant. Therefore, I consider The Trafficking Murders to be above reproach.
Owing to the author’s spectacular qualities, The Trafficking Murders has the right to belong among the top crime-based literary works. Its appealing narrative flow, well-formed characters and suspenseful nature prove the high value of this detective mystery. I can’t but recommend this book to every supporter of crime fiction, as I am certain that many people would enjoy it as much as I did.
