MM On The Wall

It is 12:30 of a Thursday

the first Thursday in New York

the very first day in such a city

and I am out during my lunch hour

I can feel little raindrops (and they are quite cold to be fair which is not very pleasant)

on my hair which I washed today early in the morning (not pleasant either)

and obviously, I did not bother to take my umbrella with me

because it was quite sunny before I left home

listening to CHET BAKER’S EARLY JAZZ SELECTION

from my old radio in the kitchen which was a present from my mama long ago

I am thinking now that I do not know when she was born though

but now I am outside (and my hair getting wet which is quite annoying)

I notice a MM sign in white colour on a graffiti wall

the weather got chilly from the rain

but it is not that bad yet as when the big winds and storms hit this area

which could not be that long ago because I can still remember the articles in THE NEW YORK TIMES

I walk the MANHATTAN STREET with a cup (I took a large one today) of

filter coffee with a slight sip of sour cream in it

and a package of crispy cinnamon rolls from the MILLIE’S WINDOW

I am grateful there were some left because when I came there was a group of

Mexican kids almost buying the shop but I was lucky I guess

I grab today’s NEW YORK TIMES from the newspaper stand

and stop walking when reading the head title in bold which takes up almost half a front page

someone hits me from the back (not his fault because I am standing in the middle of the way)

and I spill my coffee

but I do not care

SOME LIKE IT HOT HAS ITS PREMIERE IN NYC TODAY!

MARCH 19TH 1959!

breathless I fumble for the diary in my coat’s pocket

yes, MARCH 19TH says today of a Thursday

year 1959!
